Design Wall Monday–May 30, 2016

I’ve had a fun week sewing and creating a new Sewing/Quilting Basket.

IMG_7411

It started out as an expensive basket I purchased at Walmart.

The original was cute, but not nearly as cute as it could be……………but it had potential.

After completely deconstructing the purchased basket (I needed the frame), I started building the new one and changing the shape.  Here’s the quilt top I made for the outside of my basket.

I added lining and pockets to the inside.

And, TA-DA!  A new very cute Sewing/Market Basket to carry all my goodies in.

I’ll be teaching this to a group of retreaters in Las Vegas this summer.  It should be fun to see what fabrics others use.  Here are two of the baskets I made previously.

I love them both but the basket frame was no longer available so the pattern had to be redesigned to fit the new basket.

Design Wall Monday–May 23, 2016

Last week I was fortunate to spending 5 days at a retreat in Big Bear, CA.  I was with a terrific group of women.  I worked on a few things but here is what I’m still working on and is now on my design wall.

Aren’t these the cutest little churn dash blocks.  I am making them from a kit I purchased at Primitive Gatherings in Murietta, CA.  Here’s the pattern.

Design Wall Monday–May 9, 2016

My oh my, where does the time go?  I’ve actually been sewing even if it is just a little bit.  I made two skirts last week.

I love them both and have already worn both of them.

I’ve also been making some things for the Orange Grove Quilt Guild’s boutique that will be at their quilt show July 29th and 30th.  I’ll post more about that as it get closer.

I have a couple of kits that I’d like to get cut out this week so that I can take them with me to an upcoming retreat.

Design Wall Monday–April 25, 2016

My friendship group The Cotton Patchers has a birthday block exchange.  At the beginning of the year you decide what you’d like to receive from each of the members.  In return you make a block for others as the year goes on.  Since April is my birthday month I received my blocks last week.

I asked for ugly Christmas sweater blocks.  I wanted them small so that when I put them together it will make a fairly small wall hanging to hang on my front door.  I know they’re suppose to be ugly Christmas sweaters but they are anything but ugly, they are really, really cute.  I’m still waiting for 2 more then I can start figuring out how to arrange them and start working on the assembly.

Thank you Cotton Patchers, I love each and every one of them.

Guess Where I’m Going Tomorrow

I had to make a new skirt today so that I’d have it to wear tomorrow.

Can you see??????? Here’s a close-up.

Yup, John and I are headed to Disneyland tomorrow.  It truly is the “Happiest Place on Earth”.  We’re lucky enough to live fairly close so we’re able to take advantage of their Southern California residents pass.  I see a corndog in my future.  Smile

My sister was here last week and spoke at one of my local quilt guilds.  She also taught a hexie class so I thought it was appropriate to share a couple of my hexie projects.

First is a purse I made a while back.  Somehow or another, I had lost the handles for it (they just hooked in to the loops).  I finally got around to buying another set of handles, painting them candy apple red and attaching them.  I also cut out a piece of foam core board to add support and shape to the bottom of the bag.

I’m in the process of making another one and will hopefully be writing a pattern for it.

I also made a new steering wheel cover.  This is what I made at the hexie class last week and decided my “flower” would look really cute on the front of a steering wheel cover.  The steering wheel cover is also on the to-do list for writing the pattern.

As it told my BFF Marilyn, it turned out really “stinkin” cute.

Design Wall Monday–April 11, 2016

A few weeks ago I showed how I had changed up my Joy Mangano roll-up bag.  I ended up making two of them (so far).  The original became my bathroom accessory bag, holding my comb, brush, tooth brush, etc. while the second one holds my regular sewing supplies.  I love them both.

Are they not the cutest things?
